Technical report: Homebird - Task-based User Experience for Home Networks and Smart Spaces

Contemporary wireless networks in people's homes are already enabling consumer electronics devices to communicate with each other. Standards like Universal Plug and Play are being developed for interoperability between devices from different manufacturers. For example, a digital media player device is able to display video clips from a home PC or play music from portable devices. Development of the user experience is also needed to have devices perform tasks in concert. Homebird is a demonstration of a task- based user experience on a mobile phone. It discovers features of other devices automatically and suggests to the user that certain tasks can be performed together with those devices.

Jeppe – Domestic videoconferencing

Investigating what matters in video communication at home

The theme of this research is to discover insights into user acceptance of different type of video communication devices at home. What features could be added to the existing PC + webcam paradigm to make video calling a more compelling option? We have played with form factors and feature sets and ended up with a working prototype.
Technical report: Controlling Resource Hogs in Delay-Tolerant Networks

Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) are networks whose nodes have low connectivity and/or unreliable links. Because of these characteristics, DTN nodes use a store-carry-and-forward technique to deliver data through the network. Communication over DTN relies on intermediate nodes sharing their resources and can be abused by resource hogs, i.e. individuals who generate messages at a rate that is much higher than the average.

Technical Report: On Personal Content Management Techniques for Audio

State-of-art automatic analysis tools for personal audio content management are discussed in this paper. Bayesian networks based audio classification algorithm provides classification into four main audio classes and serves as a first step for other subsequent analysis tools. For speech analysis we propose an improved BIC based speaker segmentation and clustering algorithm and a combined gender and emotion detection algorithm utilizing prosodic features. For the other main classes it is often hard to device any general and well functional pre-categorization that would fit the unforeseeable types of user recorded data.
