Nokia Research Center (NRC) in partnership with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland will present NoTA Open Architecture Initiative concepts, solutions and open licensing model at Mobile World Congress 16-19 February 2009. NoTA (Network on Terminal Architecture) has revolutionized the way mobile and embedded devices are developed by enabling product and system companies to shorten research and development cycles through fast integration of third-party technologies into new and innovative products. This type of open, inter-connecting device architecture combines modularity and Internet-style Service-Oriented Architecture, relying on standard protocols for interoperability among components. Optimized for cost and performance, NoTA Open Architecture Initiative solutions have been under development at NRC since 2004, and are scaled to operate across a range of devices from embedded sensors to personal computers. Working together with leading semiconductor companies, NRC has demonstrated multiple multimedia, storage and sensor technologies based on the NoTA framework. A spin-off company will be launched in April 2009 in order to widen NoTA knowledge and improve support amongst the technology and product companies.
